Youth Training pathways

Pathways to land enterprise

BAC will strive to develop pathways to training and employment with the Katanning Senior High School (KSHS) through BAC's land-based enterprises. Initially Aboriginal Adults have been the focus of the training programs, however, we are now trying to establish a strong base of Aboriginal workers who can also become Mentors for students and graduates in the future.

Prepare, Produce, Provide

Prepare, Produce, Provide (PPP) a group of passionate educators based in WA, use food and cooking as a vehicle to help meet the needs of young people in our community by providing training and support for them to develop future career ways.

Through their culinary camps experience, students work with top chefs, local producers and other leaders within the education, hospitality, tourism and agricultural industries, to inspire and educate through programs that support and benefit a wide range of social and community causes.

Ian Hanna and Home Economic Teacher, Bianca Downham were guests of BAC at the Kinjarling Djinda Ngardak dinner in Albany in 2018 along with Mr and Mrs Esard Flowers. The night was enjoyed by all.

Great opportunities

BAC is currently negotiating a partnership with PPP and has consulted with the KSHS about plans to attract the bush tucker culinary experience to Katanning in 2021.

Students will be involved in a variety of activities including sourcing local produce, wild foraging, cooking, serving, dancing, singing and modelling. It will be an opportuntiy to showcase local talent. Support and engagement for the concept will be driven through the Katanning Noongar Leadership Group.

Developing pathways to employment, training and work experience enable youth to connect with land and culture which can assist in strengthening personal identity, health and wellbeing and confidence. Work experience can result in opportunities in paid employment in the Ranger team, the bush foods industry or echo-tourism.
