Disengaged youth at the center of Hub proposal
Badgebup Aboriginal Corporation are proud to announce the development of a Youth Pathways Project to benefit disengaged youth. The project centers around a dedicated Satellite Hub in Katanning to provide a range of services in a culturally appropriate environment.
Youth focus
In 2019, the Noongar Charitable Trust funded Phase 1 of the Youth Hub and Pathways Project including the development of a draft "Satellite Hub" model for community consideration and to gauge the interest of major stakeholders in the Great Southern Region.
The Hub model proposes to provide a range of services targeting disengaged youth, including counselling and mentoring support, educational and sporting activities aligned to existing programs in the region. More importantly it will provide respite for struggling families by using existing Ranger services to provide on-country camps for disengaged youth, including learning about their cultural identity, language, stories and forms of therapeutic art to assist in their healing process.
Helping the wider community
We are extremely pleased that we have just been granted Community Crime Prevention funding to progress Phase 2 of the project. The scope of works includes establishing a local working party, documenting youth and service provider buy-in, identifying local venue options and developing a funding strategy.
Check out our website and Facebook page for further information about this project. A new email newsletter is being developed to keep the community updated about our progress.
