Governance & structure

The BAC Board has worked closely with the Office of the Registrar of Indigenous Corporations (ORIC) in an effort to understand their corporate governance duties and responsibilities as Board members of a not-for-profit corporation. ORIC has since assessed the BAC's meeting procedures and provided governance training to Directors.

The BAC has also engaged specialists to provide expert advice in the areas of financial management, legal disputes, strategic planning, policy and program designs and marketing.

The Southwest Land and Sea Council and Wagyl Kaip Working Party support BAC's capacity building in the Central Great Southern Region. Cultural Governance is extremely important to the organisation's structure and fundamental to the implementation and development of their land-based programs.

In addition, BAC has undertaken a leadership role is establishing the Katanning Noongar Leadership Group (KNLG) - an inclusive forum with a primary focus of addressing the socio-economic disadvantage in the Central Great Southern Region by facilitating engagement between community stakeholders.

The KNLG seeks to provide an avenue for the broader community, government agencies and business stakeholders to engage more effectively with Noongar Community Leaders to improve the physical, social, emotional and mental wellbeing of Noongar peoples residing in Katanning and surroundng areas.

As BAC's programs develop, specialist advice from external experts in areas of law, branding, marketing and business development will be sought to ensure the organisation can establish commercial enterprises and community programs for the local Noongar people. Such advice will be cognisant of the cultural and corporate governance standards and protocols set by the organisation.
