A large part of our work within the Great Southern's landscapes is restoring and revegetating large areas or degraded farmland. To do this work it's incredibly important that we have reliable teams and labour forces. The team work that we have been able to develop between staff and the Badgebup Aboriginal Corporation has been absolutely wonderful.
Johnny has a working background at the Cooperative Bulk Handling Metropolitan Grain Centre in Forrestfield where he worked his way up to Team Leader, gaining a range of qualifications along the way, including a range of health and safety attainments, licences to Work at Heights, Confined Space, Loader and Forklift Operations.
When we're working in a team we can plan ten to fifteen thousand plants in a day. As we do it our youngsters develop a connection to the land - you're actually walking over land our ancestors walked on thousands of years ago. That sort of experience has a long term change on them.
The more often we do it the deeper the change and these changes have a marked impact on their attitudes and behaviours when they go home. That's not me saying that either - that's what they're saying!
Johnny also has skills in grain identification, grain handling, and the operations of the Value Adding Facility (VAF) which cleans all types of grains and is currently coordinating the Ngoolark Ranger on-site operations.
