New accommodation at Badgebup

Now you can work and stay on country.

Badgebup Aboriginal Corporation (BAC) are delighted to have taken delivery of a demountable building kindly donated by the Kingkira Group, a 100% Aboriginal female owned business providing integrated environmental support services to the Resources, Government and Commercial sectors throughout Western Australia. The donation was facilitated by the Mindaroo Foundation who are a partner in the State Government's Early Years Intiative with Telethon Kids Institute. The Minderoo Foundation is a modern philanthropic organisation, with the potential to drive massive change in regional areas and we look forward to working closely with them to create training and empoyment opportunties for Noongar people in the Great Southern. We send our heartfelt thanks to all concerned, it was a wonderful surprise.

This building has provided a huge boost to the corporation's capacity to deliver across their land-based enterprises and will be used to house trainees during work programs.

The delivery was expertly handled by Leigh and Kevin from Auslinc and we cannot thank them enough for their time and generosity in making sure the building was set up on the farm.

We are now working with the Katanning Shire to obtain the permits for the building and are seeking funding to connect the essential services to the building in time for seed collecting in late October.

BAC New Business Manager Julie Hayden explains both the planned use of the accommodation and the benefits this will offer.

This additional accommodation capacity will enable us to offer training and employment opportunities to our community across the Great Southern and overnight them here which is far safer than them travelling home at night. This is very timely due to the increase in our Ranger contracts.

The biggest benefits our Rangers get is the opportunity to stay on country and yarn with their Elders. This is where they get a real connection to culture and healing can take place. This capacity will allow us to offer more opportunities to re-connect with our younger generation through camps and activities as part of a growing focus on cultural engagement programs.

I know first hand how important putting our people back on country is if we're to give them the opportunity to show what they are really capable of and set their lives in the right direction. That's the only way you change things. I've worked hard to build Kingkira, I know it can be done and we all want to help our people to get to where they want to be too.

Trainee rangers at a Great Southern Aboriginal community organisation will have temporary accommodation while learning the skills they need to work on country, thanks to a grass-roots collaboration extending from the Pilbara all the way to Katanning. BAC has been a long-time stakeholder of Minderoo Foundation, through its Early Years Initiative.
