Help when it’s needed most

Local support for local people.

SAC, Badgebup Aboriginal Corporation and Jeert Mia Aboriginal Corporation deliver emergency COVID-19 crisis support packs to families in Katanning as part of a generous relief package donated by the Mindaroo Foundation.

Grant recipients, Southern Aboriginal Corporation, engaged with community members from of the Katanning, Kojonup, Gnowangerup and Tambellup communities to discuss how they wanted their allocation of the funding used and distributed.

SAC engaged the services of Badgebup Aboriginal Corporation and Jeert Mia Aboriginal Corporation to distribute items to Katanning Noongar residents.

BAC Business Development Manager Julie Hayden explained how communications through the Katanning Noongar Leadership Group allowed them to mobilise quickly in a time of crisis.

"SAC has engaged with the Katanning Noongar Leadership Group continuously since it was established in 2014 and during the Covid-19 crisis they contacted us to help out with the distribution of food hampers to Noongar families in Katanning and this is the result of working together for the benefit of community. From the very beginning, the Leadership Group was about creating a platform to unite Noongar families and communities in the Great Southern, for all of us to work together and achieve much more for our families."

Badgebup Elders Margaret Rundle and Beryl Weston delivered food hampers and grocery cards with assistance from Wendy Hayward, Jeert Mia Aboriginal Corporation to more than a hundren Noongar families in Katanning over the last month.

Board member Margaret Rundle explained the feedback they received when they delivered the relief aid to Noongar residents such as Anita Williams (pictured below).

"Everyone was overjoyed to see us, they even started to follow the vehicle around town because they knew we had food hampers and grocery cards. You can imagine what the grocery cards meant to our families".

BAC Elder, Beryl Weston.

The Badgebup team are no strangers to helping out in the community, they are a team of multi-skilled individuals, have their own vehicles, trailers and equipment and can mobilise within hours if required.
